Saint Innocent Church (OCA)

St. Innocent church was built in the Georgia countryside in 2003. While the exterior of this building strives to resemble classic 12th century Georgian architecture, the interior looks very different— featuring flat ceilings and excessive use of ornamental bands, reminiscent of 18th century Russian Neo-Classical architecture. This inconsistency presented a unique difficulty in creating a comprehensive system of wall decorations which should not look foreign to the space— solved by incorporating elements of classic Georgian Art that are theologically consistent. After extensive discussion with the parish rector and the building committee, a light blue background was chosen for all murals in order to compensate lack of natural light in some areas.
